ABB ceramic column circuit breaker supports renewable energy grid-connected, long-distance power transmission
In order to make better use of Inner Mongolia's rich wind power resources, the 1200-kilometer-long Zhalut (Inner Mongolia)-Qingzhou (Shandong) UHV DC transmission line was recently put into operation. This marks the completion of the first UHV power transmission channel in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the first UHV delivery channel in the Northeast.
ABB provided UHV porcelain column breakers for the Qingzhou converter station on the line. The porcelain column circuit breaker can protect the power grid and prevent power outages, helping the line to provide reliable clean power for more than 20 million users.
Since the wind energy of Inner Mongolia needs to travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers to reach the load center, it will cause a lot of losses in the transmission road. In the past, these wind energy were not fully utilized. ABB's first UHV DC transmission technology is the ideal solution for long-distance transmission and minimizing losses, enabling large-scale renewable energy integration. China has been at the forefront of UHV transmission in the world in recent years. A number of UHV DC transmission lines are continuously supplying abundant wind power from Inner Mongolia and other remote areas to the power consumption center.
ABB's Porcelain-Cylinder Circuit Breakers are equipped with the latest generation of PWC phase-selective closing devices to ensure precise opening and closing operations, eliminate harmful electrical transients and protect power equipment from failure. The project also installed filters to reduce harmonics and improve power quality.
Han Baihe, global head of high-voltage business unit of ABB's power grid business unit, said: "We are very pleased to provide support for the State Grid Corporation to achieve more renewable energy grid connection. Our leading UHV technology can improve the reliability and improvement of long-distance transmission. Power quality and more clean power to customers."
ABB offers a full range of high voltage products with voltage ratings up to 1200 kV AC and 1100 kV DC to help improve grid safety, reliability and efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. ABB has approximately 1 million sets of high voltage switch installations worldwide.
